Letter to first year parents/guardians

Dear Parent/Guardian,

I hope this finds you safe and well.

First year is a very important year of school as it sets the foundation for Junior Certificate Assessment so it is important that students keep in contact with their teachers and complete work given to them. It looks like we may not be returning to normal classes before the end of this school year and if this is the case your child will have missed a total of 9 weeks of school in first year which is more than a quarter of the school year.

We are sending this email to remind you that it is extremely important that your child keeps in contact with their teachers and completes the work assigned to them. If to date your child seems to be having difficulty in engaging then maybe it might be helpful to sit down with your child for a few minutes this week to see how they are managing and see what work is assigned on TEAMS. We are here to support you if you are having difficulty in motivating your son or daughter or are finding it challenging to monitor their progress with school work.

This work is also available for you to check on VSware and you will have received text messages regarding this. If you have problems accessing the work assigned by teachers please contact the school or management.

If you need support, advise and feedback on work the class teachers are there to support so don't hesitate to contact them.

Please ask your child to keep regular checks on their school email accounts and make their best effort under the current circumstances to complete work given. If a teacher does not hear from the student then the assumption is that the student is not engaging with school work. Students who have not engaged will be contacted by school management to ascertain what the issues are and if they can be overcome with additional support.

If at anytime you or your child need support during this time of distant teaching and learning please contact teachers, myself or management in the school.

With regard end of year tests and assessments these will take place the week of the 18th May and will be held remotely during the subjects usual class time. Teachers will be in touch about topics and times soon if they have not done so already.

We would be grateful if you could contact us with a short message of response to the following email address so as to confirm we are making contact with all parents/guardians of the year group and that we know we have correct contact details for everyone.

Keep safe and look after yourself and your family.

Kind Regards

Sharon Mc Connell, 1st Year head
